Adams Grammar School, NewportThis state boarding grammar school was founded in 1656 by William Adams of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers.
The school lies in the High Street at Newport, Shropshire and is the second City Livery Company school (see Skinners) I have painted. The building nestles between large firs and on the top floor is a fabulous old panelled library.
After meeting the headmaster, Michael Barratt (no relation!), a helpful boy, with ambitions to study law at university, proudly showed me around the school including its historic library.
